The New Brats…
No, not those - the new ones.
Like Werner Herzog, maybe I should eat my shoe - I ranted recently about the lack of decent film documentaries on ‘normal’ UK TV but it seems as if the balance may be slightly addressed this evening. Programmes like this can make my week - yes, perhaps I need to get out more but in the cultural desert of TV cinema analysis this initially strikes me as a pearl amongst the onslaught of mainstream studio marketing trash.
If they focus on directors such as David O Russell (I’m sorry, ‘Three Kings’ is hugely overated) and Sofia Coppola (talented, but ‘Lost in Translation’ is a racially suspect) in favour of genuine talents such as Fincher, Payne and the superb PT Anderson I’ll be sure to send a stern letter to BBC HQ bemoaning the fact of the waste of the licence fee that I don’t pay. So there.
If you haven’t seen this yet then get it on your Christmas list. More tomorrow.

I love ‘Hard Eight’ or ‘Sydney’ as it’s known in the States.
