Nu-Gazing

It appears that a genre of music that was popular during my teenage years has returned. The helpful bunch at Metafilter have youtube linked the article which should easily let you check out some of the scene’s new blood - I think a trip to HMV may be in order.

This has prompted me to produce a music only post, something I’ve been toying with for some time. So here goes, taking you back to the Shamrock or Sugar Club (which still seems to be going), circa 1991….

LushDeluxe - Ah Mikki…secretly I always fancied Emma more, but don’t tell anyone.

Pop Will Eat Itself, hilarious appearance on the Late late Show - Ah yes, I still have my ultra rare limited edition green vinyl copy of ‘Can U Dig it’, which I’m sure is on a rarity par with the Velvet Underground’s intact banana label album or Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music. Let’s find out shall we? 99p on ebay. Fuck.

Pixies & Throwing Muses Interview - from Rapido, around 1989. Significantly more hair and less circumference, just like yours truly.

The Wedding Present, Kennedy - my nose just started to bleed.

Ride, Drive Blind - one of the first gigs I ever went to. Anyone else remember Snub TV?

This Mortal Coil, Kangaroo

The Breeders, When I was a Painter - Does this tickle the memory bones of a certain home video?

Age of Chance, Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Noise? - I am.

Here is a list of 4AD bands that may bring back some memories and I discovered this whilst researching this post - quite shockingly this is completely new to me - anyone else heard of this ‘documentary’? Get me to ebay !!!
